Staten Island classes

what do you want to learn today?

Basic Use and safety classes

Learn the basic set up, safety and use of machines in the shops. In order to be cleared to use industrial and advanced manufacturing machines, you must show basic proficiency and knowledge of safety and use of each machine you want to use. Use clearance may be granted through demonstrated knowledge of machinery or by taking a BSU class. Check the class listings at both sites to register for any of these classes. Members receive a discounted rate, but non-members are also welcome to take any class.

For now, our workshops in industrial machinery are limited to ages 18+, unless indicated in the class description.  Some non-industrial machine classes such as laser cutting or 3D printing are suitable for ages 13+. Check the class descriptions.

advanced workshops

Some machines require knowledge beyond basic safety and use classes. For instance, if you want to use the milling machine and have not worked with one before, you will need to take a multi-session machining workshop. Welding is also a skill that requires guided practice.

These workshops are taught by working professionals so you learn tips, techniques, and tricks of the trade in small group settings.

Classes are subject to teacher availability and change often. Members receive a discounted rate, but non-members are also welcome to take any class.

For now, our workshops in industrial machinery are limited to ages 18+. Some non-industrial machine classes such as laser cutting or 3D printing are suitable for ages 13+. Check the class descriptions.

family programs

We offer workshops for families on weekends at both locations. Check the class listings at each space for more information. Most family programs are open to all ages, unless indicated in the class description.
