membership access levels

In order to use our equipment:

 

1. You must be a member of our facility or purchase a day pass. Find out more about memberships and day passes at the link below. 

2. You must be cleared to use any Class B machine in our space.  This means you either have to take a Basic Use and Safety (BUS) class or other qualifying class at our facility on any machine you wish to use OR you can gain clearance by demonstrating to a tech that you know what you are doing. This is for your safety, the safety of others around you, and the safety of the machine. 

3. Some equipment can only be used by makerspace techs. These are the Class A machines listed below. 

Class c

machines

  • Electronics/soldering equipment.

  • Computers

  • Most hand tools. Excludes power grinders and saws. 

  • Non-industrial sewing machines.

  • Jewelry station and equipment

Class C equipment can be used by any Maker or Pro member or Maker or Pro day pass holder at no extra charge without certification.

class b

machines

  • Any equipment in the metalshop including welding machines, plasma cutters, saws, brake, sanders, and drillpress. Does not include the waterjet cutter.

  • Any equipment in the woodshop including table saw, chop saws, band saws, planer, and jointer. Does not include the large Shopbot router.

  • Most equipment in the sewing/textiles shop including industrial straight stitch, walking foot, overlock, and embroidery machines. Also includes vinyl cutters and silkscreen equipment. 

  • All equipment in the machine shop including the lathes and milling machines. Does not include the Tormach CNC.

  • All laser cutters and 3D printers.

  • Vacuum forming machine.

Class B equipment in the metal, wood, and machine shops can be used by any Pro member or Pro day pass holder at no extra charge, but only with certification of knowledge of machine.

Any Class B equipment in the sewing/textile or electronics areas may be accessed by Maker level members or Maker day pass holders with certification of knowledge of machine.

Class A equipment can only be used by MakerSpace NYC techs and users must pay for any design, set up, and cut or fabrication time on that machine as an add on charge.

Members and non-members may use this service, but members receive a discount.
